GE Wishes That Alexa, Google Assistant And Siri Be In Your Ceiling

General Electric is taking things to next level than personal assistants popping up in an ever-increasing number of gadgets and gizmos. New Wi-Fi-enabled ceiling lights and a wall switch are being announced by the iconic American firm which will be showcased at CES 2018 next week.

The C by GE smart lights will offer the ability to use Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit (via AirPlay 2) voice commands to control the lights. That’s thanks to the microphone and speaker built directly into the centre of the light, smart home owners will be able to choose which of the popular personal assistants they use.

Most interestingly, it means you won’t need a dedicated Amazon Echo, Google Home or Apple HomePod to dim those lights after dinner. The ceiling fixtures will also enable users to tune the specific colour temperature of the lights. Through voice controls you’ll be able to play music and control other smart home gadgets.

Beyond the ceiling lights themselves, there’s also a new light switch which also features Alexa, Assistant and Siri compatibility. The light switch has built in motion, humidity and temperature sensors, suggesting it’ll tie in with other GE smart home devices in the future.

CES will represent a preview for the tech, with GE planning to roll out the products later in 2018. There’s no word on price yet, but perhaps we’ll find out during the Las Vegas tech expo next week.
