The stampede broke out as thousands of fans rushed through multiple gates to enter the stadium.

On-duty police personnel helped shift the injured to ambulances and admitted them to the nearby Bowring Hospital.

Due to heavy traffic and crowds on the streets, ambulances had difficulty reaching the hospital.

In a separate incident, a fan attempting to climb over a gate fell and broke his leg. Another fan suffered a head injury from a fall.

Despite a heavy police presence, they struggled to control the overwhelming crowd.

Many were seen climbing trees and sitting on branches to catch a glimpse of the celebration.

More details about the incident are still awaited.

Earlier, the Karnataka government had cancelled the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium citing security concerns.

Police stated that crowds had been gathering since Tuesday night and forces had been working all night to prevent any untoward incidents.

A massive crowd also gathered at the Vidhana Soudha premises to watch the government-hosted felicitation ceremony.

To control the crowd, police had to resort to a mild lathi charge.

Earlier on Wednesday, when the team landed at HAL Airport in Bengaluru, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar personally welcomed them.

He greeted each player with a bouquet and specially welcomed Virat Kohli, presenting him with both the Team and Kannada flags.

Virat happily accepted the flags and posed for pictures with the Deputy CM.

Shivakumar was also seen waving the Team flag from his car on his way to the airport.
